Hematite

HematiteHematite's colour ranges from silver to almost black, but has a shiny surface that almost looks like metal. It is a heavy and relatively hard mineral, and is also one of the most important iron ore due to its high iron content (70%).

Its name is derived from the Greek word haem (blood) in allusion to its red colour (of some varieties). Ancient egyptians used hematites as ornamental objects placed inside their tombs. Red ochre derived from hematite was used by prehistoric artists in their cave paintings.

Said to be a good healing and grounding stone, it improves resistances to life's stresses and strengthens the body. Hematite inspires inner life and promotes inner peace.
